Buildings of the Second Phase Receive LEED Platinum Certification for Environmentally Friendly and Energy-Efficient Design

The office buildings of the second phase of the Magdelēna Quarter project, developed by real estate company Vastint Latvia at 17 and 21 Antonijas Street in Riga, received the highest LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) v4 BD+C: Core and Shell certification rating for newly built office buildings in Latvia to date in December last year.

The LEED Platinum certification confirms that the buildings meet outstanding sustainability standards. They incorporate solutions that significantly reduce energy and water consumption, use environmentally friendly materials, ensure high indoor air quality, and integrate renewable energy sources.

“This high-level recognition confirms our commitment to creating high-quality, sustainable and environmentally friendly office buildings that have a positive impact on the people who work and spend time in them – improving their comfort, health and productivity – while also contributing to the surrounding urban environment. Such an achievement would not have been possible without the project team, who anticipated sustainable solutions early in the building architecture, landscaping and engineering systems, paying particular attention to energy-efficiency solutions, the capacity of ventilation, cooling and heating systems, lighting levels, electricity and water conservation, and overall workplace quality. In addition, during construction, close attention was paid to the implementation of these solutions, construction details, selected materials, their properties and origin, jointly creating an outstanding final product,” explains Mārcis Jankaitis, Project Manager at Vastint Latvia.

Romāns Astahovs, Managing Director of Vastint Latvia, adds:
Within the Vastint Group, we have already received more than 100 sustainable building certifications for our properties. This demonstrates that sustainability for us is not merely a formal requirement or a passing trend, but a long-term strategic choice. For clients, an internationally recognised certification awarded by an independent institution provides additional assurance that the project meets the highest sustainability standards and contributes to a high-quality, future-ready urban environment. We are truly pleased with the diligence and perseverance of the project team, and we thank our clients for their understanding and flexibility in certain office design matters, which made it possible to maintain this high benchmark.”

When choosing an office in the Magdelēna Quarter, it was important to us that the premises meet the highest international quality and sustainability standards. The LEED Platinum certification confirms that this environment has been designed with a long-term perspective – both in terms of employee well-being and responsible resource use,” Ieva Andersone, Managing Partner and Attorney at Law, Sorainen Latvia

“As a technology company, our goal is to create a positive impact on the world through IT, and we integrate this approach both in service development and the design of our work environment. That is why it is essential for us to work in premises that meet the highest sustainability and energy-efficiency standards. The LEED Platinum certification of the Magdelēna Quarter buildings confirms that sustainable thinking here is part of everyday processes and supports our ambition to build a better future across all areas of business. Such an environment enhances employee well-being while also representing a long-term investment in society,” notes Laima Brauere, Director of Workplace and Sustainability at Atea Global Services.
